What does a social impact producer do?
As a social impact producer, I focus on the power of storytelling. With humble beginnings, I help organizations build a robust media presence that drives meaningful change. The nonprofit sector is just as competitive as any other industry, often vying for limited resources year after year. Organizations compete for attention to foster social impact and enact positive change.
So, how can we raise awareness through compelling storytelling? How do we develop assets that keep a narrative alive while ensuring sustainability?
My approach involves helping organizations establish a media advocacy arm of their non-for-profit organization. My goal is not just to craft an engaging story but to create a self-sustaining model that supports and funds essential programming.
How I work
I collaborate with grassroots organizations that are deeply embedded in their communities. My work goes beyond just production; it’s about leveraging media to fuel nonprofit initiatives while promoting the organization’s mission.
I assemble teams to craft powerful stories and empower program participants to become media advocates through hands-on education. By developing structured storytelling frameworks and creating public service announcements (PSEs), I aim to enhance the visibility of the organization’s community services and initiatives.
Rising Tide Effect
Through the Merpeople project and my experience as a parent struggling to find affordable swim lessons for my child, I became acutely aware of the unequal access to swim safety education. Living on the barrier peninsula of NYC, I witness an average of four to seven drownings each summer—a tragic statistic that demands legislative change. If we prioritize fire safety education in our schools, why not mandate swim safety education for a city surrounded by water?
I have become an advocate for programs that go beyond basic swim lessons, aiming to foster positive social change in underserved communities through aquatic experiences. The Rising Tide Effect, a 501(c)(3) organization, was created to uplift individuals facing socio-economic hardships by providing frameworks through swimming—not only for education and safety but also for personal development. Rethink Food
In 2020 New York City came to a halt due to COVID and the already underserved food desert communities took even a bigger blow with lack of access to food. One of Rethink partners Eleven Madison turned their Michelin Star resturant into the first comminsary kitchen in New York City to help feed underserved communites. Rethink Food works with partners throughout the food ecosystem to rescue their excess food and transform it into community meals.
